As you know, our next event is at The Austin Club. Located smack dab in the middle of Downtown (don’t worry about parking–there’s an adjacent garage!), The Austin Club features a gorgeous ballroom complete with old world details like chandeliers and an amazing mahogany bar.

Weddings Unveiled Fashion Show by Melange Bridal

We were so excited to feature a fashion show at last Wednesday’s Weddings Unveiled event. Melange Bridal showcased a variety of different dresses in a mock-ceremony setting. Hyde Park Strings played from the balcony at the Mansion at Judges’ Hill as the models walked down the aisle.

Vignette Photography :: The First Look

It can be one of the biggest wedding decisions you make…

To have a First Look or not?

For some, tradition and superstition prevent a First Look. For others, it’s the fear that a First Look will take away from your reactions to seeing each other for the first time as you walk down the aisle.

Katie & Hector are a great example of the merits of a First Look…and how your walk down the aisle will still take his breath away.

Notice how the couple is so thrilled to see each other in their First Look. And, they don’t have to immediately face away from each other for a ceremony. They get to look…hug….laugh…and cry. It’s beautiful.

And here, as Katie walks down the aisle, Hector is still adorably touched. Having seen her before the ceremony didn’t change things a bit…she is still his bride on her way to take his hand.

We always ask our brides what their plans are for their day – do they want to see each other before the ceremony? Sometimes they haven’t decided so we discuss the pros of a First Look with them but in no means try to force that decision upon them. Some are very adamant about not seeing each other before. In this instance, the First Look was Katie’s idea. She very much wanted the First Look to share that special moment with Hector. It wasn’t rushed and we were only on the scene for maybe 5 minutes before we walked away to allow them complete time alone. It was also a good decision on her part because of the large amount of family photos they wanted. We were able to take all of those prior to the ceremony so after the ceremony, Katie and Hector went right into their reception and actually ate dinner!
…looking at the images, you can just see their emotions – love, joy and commitment- and the how the importance of this day weighed on them in a good way, especially Hector. It’s cute too that during the ceremony when Katie walked the aisle with her dad, Hector had almost the same reaction seeing her again as he did during the First Look.

Vignette Photography shows how special a First Look can be and how it won’t take away from the moment the groom sees his bride walking down the aisle.

Unique Wedding Photos from an Austin Wedding Photographer

Looking at wedding photos all day is part of my job. Yeah, I know…poor me.

After a while, most weddings just start to look the same. Part of this has to do with trends. Part of it is that the big wedding blogs tend to focus on the same types of details. Part of this is what wedding photographers focus on–think classic mixed with blog-worthy details. You see the cycle?

It raises the question…as a bride, how do you make sure your wedding photos depict how uniquely YOU your wedding was?

For one, you hire the right photographer.
You and your wedding photographer should click. Your photographer should understand what’s important to you…not just about your wedding, but about your relationship and your interests. If they GET these things, they’ll have an eye for what to capture on your wedding day.

Secondly, to make sure your wedding is uniquely yours, don’t shy away from including pieces of your personality, culture, interests and personal style.
Each of these things make up who you are, both individually and as a couple. Why not incorporate them into your wedding day?

Working with Daniel C Photography, Bea + Peco made sure the intricacies of their celebration were showcased in their photographs. It’s clear from each of these photos that the couple connected with their photographer. He wasn’t just someone in the background to snap a few pictures. He made sure he was THERE. To capture everything he knew would be most important to them.

Here’s how they did it…

The Classics

Let’s not discount the classics. These are the frame-worthy photos…the ones your children and grandchildren will have hanging on THEIR walls.

Capturing Personality

It may be you, your bridal party or even your wedding guests…a good photographer knows it, sees it and captures it.

Incorporating Culture

Bea is Vietnamese. So after the ceremony, she changed into a traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai for the first half of the reception. They also incorporated their cultures into the centerpieces. They even did a Vietnamese wedding game that consists of inserting a raw egg through the bottom of the groom’s pant leg, passing it up over the top and down through the other pant leg. Fun!

Personal Interest and Style

Adding a few personal touches like colored bridal shoes, Converse for the bridesmaids, a World Cup cake and a cigar session are great ways to make your wedding day your own. And, of course, your photographer will want to capture each of the unique touches you add to your wedding!

From Proposal to ‘I Do’

When blogs feature Real Weddings, they often focus on just one photo shoot. As I was looking at photo albums from Thanks for the Memories, I found myself finding each couple’s engagement album, then bridal session and then their wedding. Looking at each couple’s photos in that order helped tell the story of their time from proposal to ‘I do’.

Hiring A Photographer For Your Bridal Shower

When you’re hiring a photographer for your wedding, you think of the basics…engagement photos, bridal photos, your wedding day, maybe a day after or trash the dress shoot.

But, what about having a professional photographer at your showers? During your engagement party, your couples shower, your bachelorette party, you and your guests might take a couple posed shots…probably with an IPhone or a little point and click. No one with a trained eye or a decent camera is there to document the details your hostess worked so hard to create or the cute little moments with your friends as they shower you with love and attention.

Kate & Ryan + Wedding Photo Giveaway

Kate and Ryan have been together for quite a while.
Spending time away from each other while Kate teaches elementary school here in Austin and Ryan alternated semesters of college with internships for NASA.
They finally made it to the same city and then living together, now they’re married and blissful.

Their wedding was so joyous, we were thrilled to be there.
