Using Etsy to find your Wedding Details

Monday, April 5th, 2010

Let’s start at the beginning.
If you read this title and wondered what in the world Etsy is, you’ve got some catching up to do, honey. We’ll be quick…

What is Etsy?

Etsy is an online marketplace for handmade and vintage goods. It’s basically an online craft bazaar, only the quality, variety and diversity is much, much better.

Why use Etsy?

There are tons of reasons. First, the items you find on Etsy are much more unique than anything you’ll find at your big box bridal store. Second, you’re supporting artisans. Third, you can often work with an artist to customize products, getting exactly what you want for your wedding.

How to use Etsy for your wedding:

Etsy hosts a variety of shops that are specifically wedding. Simply click on the Wedding category and you’ll see a host of other sub-categories. There’s everything from handbags to favors, guest books and bouquets.
Etsy isn’t just for weddings, though. Using a custom registry site, you can create an Etsy wedding registry to register for pottery, furniture, quilts or housewares.

Still not sure what Etsy is?
Click over and browse a bit. You’ll be addicted in no time.

Austin Photographers on Facebook

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Becoming a fan of your photographer gives you the chance to view past weddings that your photographer has shot.
It’s also a great way to get inspiration for your own engagement and bridal sessions.
A friend of mine saw a bridal album featuring the bride baking a pie in her wedding dress and fell in love with the pictures, having a passion for cooking. The portraits weren’t on her photographer’s website, and she hadn’t even thought about taking fun, quirky pictures during her bridal session. These turned out to be some of the cutest pictures in her wedding album.

Weddings Unveiled at The Allan House

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

The March 3 show at The Allan House was one of the best Weddings Unveiled shows yet!

Allan House Austin Bridal Show

The weather was perfect for an intimate evening of wedding planning fun! Over 100 attendees enjoyed the elegant home and grounds at The Allan House while they sipped champagne, nibbled on catering samples and mingled with vendors.

We were so busy with vendor registration and raffles, we didn’t get a chance to take any photos. Luckily, Ron Parks and his team photographed the event and shared with us!

Details from the show. Each guest received a reusable tote full of discounts, coupons and a free gift. The Allan House ladies set-up the ceremony site to help couples envision the details of their wedding. Vendors went all out to showcase their talents with beautiful displays and delectable samples.

As attendees entered, they registered for raffles by category. This helped to ensure winners received prizes they could actually use. Due to the large number of prizes, we held a raffle every 20 minutes. Our raffle winners were ecstatic about winning!

Attendees and vendors had the opportunity to have meaningful conversations and get to know each other in an intimate setting. In addition to other caterers, Whole Foods Culinary Center and Catering offered samples from their catering menu.

Become a Fan of Your Wedding Venue

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

When starting the search for a perfect venue for your wedding day, you may start by browsing through webpage after webpage online. However, after doing this myself, I’ve realized that some venues put much more emphasis on their websites than others, and it’s very easy to overlook the venues that don’t have as many pictures on their sites.

However, in the midst of the social media age, many venues do have Facebook fan pages. Some brides upload their wedding photos and tag their venue in them, so the fan pages often have many more photos than the venue website. This is also a great way to get inspiration for your own wedding by seeing how other brides have decorated the venue for their dream day.

Here are a few local venues with fan sites:
The Allan House
Vintage Villas
Mercury Hall
The Terrace Club
Waterford House
